Restaurant Review, First Watch Athens GA.
I am taking a short break from packing to offer a restaurant review. In the past I have written them to much success. The difference is that now I have a better platform to offer them to.
Normally, we don’t go to chain restaurants except when may we are traveling, but this one seemed a bit different and worthy of a short review. First Watch is a breakfast and brunch establishment with many different menu items put together in a cohesive form. In other words, it works.
The start to our breakfast excursion started off a bit on the side of disaster, but was soon cleared of any wrong doing by Nicole the regional manager who just happened to be working that morning. I called ahead and added my family of four to the wait list, which I was told was not at all lengthy for a Sunday morning. Most places in Athens are usually packed with college students by 10 AM. Fortunately for us we were off to a somewhat early start. We arrived, checked in with the hostess stand and took a seat. My kiddos were starving and complaining and we had only been waiting for five minutes. Soon, I began to notice that people were coming in and being seated when we were clearly there first. My wife stated her status quickly and said, Hey! We were here first. It was not long when Nicole, who is the regional manager noticed us and come over. She quickly owned up to the mistake on their part, that we had been skipped in the call ahead que. We are seated immediately at this point. Ding, ding ding. 10 points for honesty and correcting the mistake. Honesty goes along way in my book. If you screw up, admit it and fix it. Simple. Many places lie and try to cover it up, as I have been on the receiving end of it several times in a restaurant. Listen, I worked in restaurants for over 10 years and mistakes happen, believe me. Honesty is always the best policy.
Nicole offered a peace offering of their signature millionaire bacon, bacon is always good for an apology. It was delicious, sweet, savory and slightly peppery. After the little snafu, life went on as usual. The server, did her job very well and was rewarded for it too. The food was hot and fresh with an interesting flair. The blueberry pancakes came out huge, like a an old vinyl record and filled with blueberries with a side of blueberry compote. Only one needed. My Smoked salmon frittata was really good, although it could have used a bit more seasoning, but simplicity is good too. It came with a fresh side salad of seasonal greens, with a tangy and light lemon vinaigrette. Just what I need as my belly is already growing like a pregnant school girl.
All in all First Watch is a great little breakfast spot. It has an interesting flair and really good food. The sanitation score is a 98 and the whole place was buzzing.
As with so many new establishments, they tend to decline after opening, when the management staff that opened has moved on. Let’s hope this does not happen. I like the food and hope they keep up the good work. Overall I will give this one a 4.5 out of 5.
Thanks for reading and if you want more information on First Watch, message me. I have more reviews to read as well.
Cheers!
